Welcome to Warrior Wähine Self Defence. We are a small self defence club based in Napier, NZ. Our classes are held on Monday evenings at the Yin Yoga studio on Hastings Street, Napier.

What you’ll learn (in a nutshell)

How to defend yourself against people that are bigger and stronger than you.

Stuff we cover in class

  • Joint locks
  • Strikes (punches, kicks and other stuff)
  • Throws (and how to fall safely)
  • Fighting people on the ground
  • Freeing yourself from grabs
  • Weapons (mainly swords, sticks and knives)
  • Using your breath and your voice
  • Protecting yourself and those around you

Our syllabus is based on the Seishinkan Aiki-Jujutsu syllabus.

Who is this club for?

This class is suitable for women of all ages (16 – 65+), fitness levels and ability. We welcome women who have trained in other martial arts styles to share their skills with us. Rainbow community lovingly welcomed.

Our club is a safe space

Every woman has a story. We will go at your pace. We’ll never force you to do anything you don’t want to do!

Please let the instructor know if you need some space or are finding anything personally difficult. We’ll work around your needs and hopefully help you overcome your challenges.

Cost

$20 per month to cover the rent of the space, and a bit of equipment. If money is a barrier, please let us know. We’d rather have you there than have the money!

We don’t expect you to commit to a month’s training fees straight away, so the first lesson is free so you can see if it’s right for you.

What to wear

Comfy clothes that you’re not too precious about if they accidentally get ripped.

If you own a martial arts uniform (gi) please bring it along – funnily enough these are the perfect clothes to wear for martial arts because they’re roomy and sturdy.
